A Multi-Genre Debut
Just come over. No, I’m not always home
It drives me nuts when people claim that rock is dead because they obviously aren’t looking closely enough. There are so many amazing bands out there, with a great multitude pulling from rock influences. If you’re dying for some new rock, look no further, I have the cure to what ails you.
The Loft Club hit the music scene with their 2016 debut EP Heart’s Desire. Two of the four tracks featured on the EP stood the test of time and made their way onto the band’s debut album, Dreaming The Impossible. Released this past Friday, the tunes carried-over are the White Stripes-meet-the-Eurythmics indie rock jam “I’m Just A Man“ and the folk rocker “Flicker“ that was co-written by, and features, Lisa Loeb.
The first song I heard from the band, and from Dreaming The Impossible, was “Waves,“ the quasi B-side to the album’s debut single “True Love.“ Immediately, “Waves“ brought to mind rock bands like My Morning Jacket and Roadkill Ghost Choir through the sixties guitar rock splashed with folk soul.
Then, you have songs like “True Love“ that pull from the nineties and channel bands like Toad The Wet Sprocket and Oasis. The latter makes even more sense considering The Loft Club had an amazing pre-COVID gig in support of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
Packed with 12 stellar tunes, Dreaming The Impossible is an album begging to be heard live. Since there is no telling when that might happen, we’ll have to make do with what we can.
In speaking about the album, The Loft Club frontman Daniel Schamroth provided a stellar suggestion:
“This is an album for the purists. I’m one of those old school romantics who still practices the dying art of donning the headphones and consuming an album from start to finish via candle light, with sleeve in hand. I don’t know if anyone listens to albums like that anymore, but I certainly do.”
Schamroth is spot on, The Loft Club’s music is absolutely made for headphones. You can’t go wrong listening via any avenue, but I highly recommend snagging your favorite pair of headphones and getting lost in the music. It’s honestly my favorite way to ingest all tuneage anyway.
Dreaming The Impossible dropped everywhere last Friday, August 7th.
Tune In & Tune Out,
