Woman Crush Wednesday: Donna Missal
Raw. Powerful. Soulful. Rockstar.
These words describe the insanely talented artist that is Donna Missal. I know I constantly talk about SXSW, but I had the privilege of seeing her twice there last year, and her performances were jaw-dropping.
Missal made a big impression with her initial demo of “Keep Lying” in 2015. The hard work and singles that followed culminated into her impressive, debut album, This Time.
This Time is one of those records that connects with the innermost emotions in a person. I challenge you to listen and not put yourself in the situations that Missal’s delicate yet powerful vocal stylings paint so vividly.
One of my personal favorites on the album is “Girl.” It was only fitting to showcase this song on today’s spotlight with it’s message, which to me, depicts the underlying impacts that one’s words and actions can inflict upon a person.
“When women hate on other women, everybody loses.”
She released a new single at the end of 2019 and another early this year that delve deeper into her story. These are hopefully signs that Missal plans to release a new album soon.
Until we get more, enjoy all of the amazing music she has graced us with already.
Happy listening!

Lucky for me there was a series of beautifully captured live sessions at Capitol Studios to share. Hear the rhythmic plea that is “Girl.”
This is the song that launched it all: “Keep Lying.” You could cut the raw emotion with a knife.
