“What are you filling your dreams with?“

SXSW has been a central theme through the early days of Music for Nomes, and especially through many of Travis’s posts. He put the spotlight on Fatherson a few weeks back, and their show is where I discovered the magical music of The Snuts.

2019’s SXSW was the first I had taken full advantage of for a few years so with how much effort Travis puts into his prep, why wouldn’t I follow his schedule?

After we caught some stellar bands on Rainey Street, we ventured further downtown for the British Music Embassy showcase focused on bands from or around the UK. It was in a very small venue so we went early to get a good spot and catch some of the openers.

The second band to take the stage looked young but their name, The Snuts, was too unique to not be intrigued. Jack Cochrane nonchalantly took the mic, and with a simple “Hello! We’re the f***ing Snuts!” the crowd exploded.

Once I heard the first guitar riff and Cochrane’s amazing vocals, I was hooked. The majority of the crowd sang along to every song with so much passion and energy that you would have thought they traveled all the way to Austin just to see this band. I get it.

“The f***ing Snuts“ stayed with me more than any other band from SXSW that year. Their bluesy rock with elements of post punk, pop, and the occasional ballad is nothing short of infectious. I would compare them to the Arctic Monkeys, Cold War Kids, and The Wombats, but Cochrane’s voice, and range, blows away any these more well-known artists. No disrespect to them; he’s just that good.

From their early lofi demos and garage-y EP The Matador, to the more polished sound on their Mixtape EP released earlier this year, I have yet to hear anything from The Snuts that I don’t absolutely love.

Recently signed to Parlophone, I can’t even fathom what their debut album will be like and how big they’re going to get. It’s no wonder they’ve garnered such a huge following that consistently sells out venues in the UK.

As with many artists we share, if you get an opportunity to see them live, make sure you do it. It won’t be long before they’re headlining festivals and selling out shows everywhere else.

Tune in and Tune out

Pulling a page from Cold War Kids on “Fatboy Slim“

“When I Was Your Man“ (Bruno Mars cover), one of the aforementioned ballads that shows the unreal range of singer Jack Cochrane. So much soul and emotion poured into this tune.

Good luck not having the radio-ready “Seasons,“ stuck in your head

Bonus Track: The Snuts channel Arctic Monkeys with “All Your Friends,“ live from TRNSMT
